Inspirational Bible Verses
At first glance, this opening Bible verse may not seem inspiring. David found himself in a desperate situation in Ziklag. The Amalekites had plundered and burned the city. David and his men were grieving their losses. Their profound grief turned into anger, and now the people wanted to stone David to death because he left the city vulnerable.
But David strengthened himself in the Lord. David made a choice to turn to his God and find refuge and strength to carry on. We have the same choice to make in times of desperation as well. When we are cast down and in turmoil, we can lift ourselves up and praise the God of our salvation:
And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul .. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. (1 Samuel 30:6)
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. (Psalm 42:11)
Reflecting on God's promises is one way believers can strengthen themselves in the Lord. Here are a few of the most inspirational assurances in the Bible:
'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.' (Jeremiah 29:11)
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34:8)

Reflecting on what God has done for us is another way to strengthen ourselves in the Lord:
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. (Hebrews 10:19-23)
The supreme resolution to any problem, challenge, or fear, is to dwell in the presence of the Lord. For a Christian, seeking God's presence is the essence of discipleship. There, in his fortress, we are safe. To 'dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life' means to maintain a close relationship with God. For the believer, God's presence is the ultimate place of joy. To gaze upon his beauty is our utmost desire and blessing:
One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. (Psalm 27:4)
The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10)
A believer’s life as a child of God has a firm foundation in God’s promises, including the hope of future glory. All of the disappointments and sorrows of this life will be made right in heaven. Every heartache will be healed. Every tear will be wiped away:
Holy Spirit Blessing
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (Romans 8:18)
Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. (1 Corinthians 13:12)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 6:19-20)
Blessing The Human Spirit
As God's children, we can find security and completeness in his love. Our heavenly Father is on our side. Nothing can ever separate us from his great love.

If God is for us, who can ever be against us? (Romans 8:31)
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow — not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)
The most valuable thing in our lives as Christians is our relationship with Jesus Christ. All of our human accomplishments are like garbage compared to knowing him:
But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith. (Philippians 3:7-9)
